Bilirubin in urine
Bilirubin in the urine appears when the processed (direct) bilirubin, which the kidneys excrete, is elevated in the blood. Healthy urine does not contain it — so it is always worth attention.

Why it matters
ECLM: presence indicates liver/biliary tract involvement.
If it’s low
The absence of bilirubin in the urine is normal and expected.
If it’s high
The presence of bilirubin in the urine (and dark urine) indicates liver disease or obstruction of the bile ducts — it always requires clarification.
What to do
Bilirubin in the urine is not normal — evaluate with blood liver tests. With dark urine/jaundice → consultation with a doctor.
