Troponin (hs)
Troponin (high-sensitivity) is a protein of the heart muscle. When heart cells are injured it leaks into the blood. It is the most specific blood sign of heart muscle damage.

Why it matters
Elevated indicates heart muscle injury; in acute presentations, key for diagnosis (ESC ACS).
If it’s low
Low/undetectable troponin is normal and reassuring — no signs of heart damage.
If it’s high
Elevated troponin means heart cells are injured. With symptoms (chest pain, shortness of breath) this is URGENT. A mild chronic rise can accompany heart failure, kidney disease or age.
What to do
Troponin is not a lifestyle marker. A doctor clarifies a mild rise without symptoms (heart, kidneys). With chest pain accompanied by shortness of breath/sweating → EMERGENCY HELP.
