Basophils (percentage)
Basophils (percentage) tell the small PERCENTAGE of white blood cells that are basophils (allergic/inflammatory cells). For assessment the absolute count and the overall picture are meaningful.

Why it matters
Usually very few; persistently elevated is rare and requires evaluation.
If it’s low
A low percentage is of no significance.
If it’s high
A high percentage of basophils is rare; evaluate in context.
What to do
Evaluate in the overall blood count; an isolated abnormality is almost always insignificant.
