Why it matters

Abnormal with infections/immune conditions.

If it’s low

A low lymphocyte percentage (with a high neutrophil percentage) accompanies bacterial infections, stress or steroids.

If it’s high

A high lymphocyte percentage is typical of viral infections.

What to do

Read the percentage with the absolute count and the other subtypes; the pattern tells more than a single value.
